TOO LOUD, BRIGHT LIGHT IN AUDIENCE’S EYES

Chris Botti and his band are very talented BUT the concert was unbearable because the sound, especially of his trumpet, was excruciatingly loud and hurtful to the eardrums. On top of this, a huge white light was turned onto the audience in the mezzanine! One couldn’t even look at the stage. This ruined the concert for us.

MORE CHRIS, LESS EVERYONE ELSE.

Wife and I went to his concert at the Wiltern. I bought the tickets a while ago so I was very much looking forward to it. I play the horn too and I've always loved his music. That said, it was kind of like a "Chris Botti and Friends" concert. He had 5 "special guests", all of whom were very talented but none of which I had ever heard of. I have no idea what the percentage of time was dedicated to him playing his horn as opposed to all the other folks performing, but it seemed about 50/50. In short, I bought tickets to see Chris Botti and not the other folks. I get the special guest thing but I would have preferred to hear more of the person I paid to see. I won't go to another of his concerts as a result and I'll just play him on my system.

DISAPPOINTED

We love Chris Botti's music and greatly enjoyed his performance in 2023. We were so excited to see him again in 2024 and bought the best tickets we could, but unfortunately we did not get to hear him for much of the evening. There were four special guests, three of whom were very fun to listen to and who I would actually enjoy seeing in concert, but they were not who we were there to see last night. There were several too long solos from his band members, again all of whom are very talented, but we did not expect to spend so much time listening to them. The 20 plus minute jam session felt like they were rehearsing, not performing. We both left feeling disappointed. Please do a better job at advertising what the show will actually be.

CHRIS BOTTI CHICAGO THEATER

We attended Chris Botti's concert at the Chicago Theater on June 10. Chris Botti is a world-class trumpet musician. He was accompanied by equally phenomenal musicians and vocalists. He played various types of music during the concert ranging from jazz, pop, and classical. The musicality of the performers is amazing. While I was looking forward to this concert for many months, I did not enjoy it. Why? The sound technician at the Chicago Theater did a horrible job. The sound was not adjusted or balanced properly. This audio engineer did the worse job of sound equalization that I have ever heard at any performance. I would attend another Botti concert with the same performers, but not if the same audio engineer was in charge.

TODAY’S TORTURE

I attended Mr Botti’s performance last evening with my father in law. My expectations of a world renowned trumpeter with such accolades were sadly disappointed. Why in today’s world must performers drift so far away from the beauty of what once was the subject? The actual beauty of the music. It’s as if Mr. Botti is in a competition with himself, not realizing or recognizing the power and substance of jazz in its purest form. While surrounded by incredible musicians of such talent and structure, I found the concert incredibly tainted by the guest performances, desperately needing to have their moment in the sun, and ignoring the structure of a band’s performance. My father in law and I were dumbfounded as to why these incredible pieces of work from the creators of jazz had to be performed in such a manner. Filled with all of the shtick and commercial influenced productions one would experience on a 3 day budget cruise line. I was not expecting a Kenny G concert.
